Family Activities

2 July – 31 August: NBM Explorer Days are EVERY DAY in July and August! Regular admission. These family adventures are for the young and young at heart. Join the NBM for a full day of themed activities including art instruction, experiments, face painting, eco-friendly educational crafting, games, gallery talks and discovery programmes. Face painting noon-1pm daily. A day pass at the NBM ensures you can plan your day to capture all of the excitement. Extreme Summer Fun. (Bilingual)

This Week at the NBM                                                                           

13, 20, and 27 July Thursdays 6:30-8pm: Handmade at the NBM - July is Open Craft Circle. Free in NBM Foyer. Come to the NB Museum to work on individual projects in the company of friends or be guided by knowledgeable museum staff in a variety of crafts including knitting, embroidery, cross-stitch, and more . Fee of $2 per project or bring your own supplies. Don’t miss out on these evenings of friendship and fun! Ages 14 to adult. (Bilingual)

13 July Thursday 5pm: Author Book Talk and Signing at the NBM: Tides: The Science and Spirit of the Ocean. Free admission. Join author Jonathan White for a book talk and signing of his publication Tides: The Science and Spirit of the Ocean.  The book is the result of White’s journey of discovery to witness the largest, fastest, scariest and most amazing tides in the world. He has been to the Maritimes on numerous occasions conducting research, and the Bay of Fundy appears prominently in two chapters of the book.  For more information on this book visit http://jonathanwhitewriter.com/.  This event is co-sponsored by the Nature Conservancy of Canada and the New Brunswick Museum. 13 July Thursday 6:30-7:30pm: New Brunswick Museum Walk - Prince William Street Walk. Regular admission. Join a NBM Interpreter for a discovery walk and discover the geoscience heritage of Saint John by visiting buildings featured in the guide Rebuilt in Stone: Geology and the Stone Buildings of Saint John, New Brunswick. Meet at the New Brunswick Museum Reception Desk. (Bilingual)

20 July Thursday 6:30-7:30pm: New Brunswick Museum Walk- Public Art Walk. Regular Admission.  Join a NBM Interpreter for a discovery walk to learn the stories and significance of many of the public art pieces along Harbour Passage. Meet at the New Brunswick Museum Reception Desk. (Bilingual)

27 July Thursday 6:30-7:30pm: New Brunswick Museum Walk - Biodiversity in the Bay. Regular admission. Join a NBM Interpreter for a discovery walk to Long Wharf and learn why the Bay of Fundy tides are the highest in the world and what special features and biodiversity the Bay has to offer! Meet at the New Brunswick Museum Reception Desk. (Bilingual)

Whale of a Time!
Whale sightings, of the up close and personal kind, are guaranteed at the New Brunswick Museum! You’ll head indoors for this whale-watching experience, put on a lab coat and gain incredible insight into these mysterious ocean giants from a point of view you just can’t get out on the water. Examine real whale bones and discover what you have in common with these enormous mammals. You’ll know just ‘how big is big’ when it comes to a whale! People of all ages will leave the museum as ‘Bay of Fundy Tide Experts’ with great stories of the whales and the world-famous tides, this time through the eyes of a knowledgeable guide.  $15/person, minimum 4 guests Daily at 9:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. 90-minute duration. Discover Uptown Saint John

A one-of-a-kind discovery tour you won’t want to miss while visiting the city of Saint John! Museum interpreters offer a fun and engaging experience as you explore Uptown Saint John. Join us at the museum entrance to begin your 2-hour tour. Your guide will take you through the city (we’re bringing props in case you are easily distracted!). Walk alongside the harbour, listen to its colourful history; take in the sights and sounds, stop for a photo-op beside the full-size moose. Head uptown where you’ll get an up close look at the distinctive streetscape, a display of fine period architecture and outstanding craftsmanship. $15/person, Monday to Friday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

School and Youth Groups, Adult Groups, Senior Groups, Tea and Tour Special programs available by appointment. Group rates apply to groups of eight or more.

NBM Birthday Parties for all ages! Book your birthday party at the NBM to receive a fun, interactive tour of a museum gallery & room rental for your festivities. $13. Per person. Some restrictions apply for room use. Please book two weeks in advance. Call (506) 643-2349 for more information.

Workshops require pre-registration at least one week before event by calling (506) 643-2349. Members enjoy a 20% discount on workshops where noted.
